School Description
Tashkent International School (TIS), an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, is a private, not-for-profit, independent, co-educational day school governed by a board of directors elected and appointed from the parent community.
Established in 1994, TIS serves the needs of an expanding international population, including children of expatriate business people and children from the diplomatic communities.

Campus Facilities
TIS is housed in a recently-remodeled facility on a 13-acre wooded campus with beautifully landscaped grounds. It is located only 10 minutes from the city center in a quiet, residential community. The school is a fully-enclosed campus with full-time security.
The campus offers large, landscaped and wooded recreation areas with park benches, basketball courts, a soccer field, a pond and gardens. There is also a separate playground for kindergarten and preschool students.
Indoors, the facility is handicapped accessible and features large, climate-controlled classrooms, two spacious libraries, an auditorium, a sports hall, four computer labs, and three science labs, all with wireless Internet access.
The Tashkent International Medical Clinic is also house on the campus with a separate entrance.

Faculty
Sixty-five full-time and 11 part-time faculty members make up the 2011-2012 staff. Twenty-six faculty members are U.S. citizens, 19 are host-country nationals and 31 originate from nine other countries. Fifty-three percent of the faculty have advanced degrees including six Doctorates. The school also employs 17 teacher aides
Student body
There are 425 students enrolled in preschool through grade 12, including 220 secondary students. The class of 2011 consisted of 19 seniors. Fourteen percent of the current study body are U.S. citizens, 22 percent are host-country nationals, and 64 percent are from 38 other countries. The average class size is 18. TIS provides six full and six half scholarships to local students based on academic performance and financial need.
Curriculum
Tashkent International School (TIS) offers the full International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum – the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to students in preschool to grade 5; the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 6 to 10; and the Diploma Programme (DP) for grades 11 and 12. Small class sizes take advantage of the diverse educational background of the students. Instruction is in English and courses include English, mathematics, science, humanities, physical education, art, technology and fine arts. English as a second language is available from grades 2 to 9. Russian is offered as a foreign language and at mother-tongue level. Other languages include Uzbek, French and Korean. There is a comprehensive after-school activities program that includes IB CAS (Creativity, Action, Service), Model United Nations, student council, SAT/ACT and college preparation, student newspaper, music training, art, chess club, and sports such as track and field, basketball, soccer, volleyball and badminton.
