Policy

Tashkent International School adheres to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which the host country, Uzbekistan, is a signatory. Therefore, it is the policy of the Board that every student who attends TIS has the right to be safe and secure. Schools fill a special institutional role in society as protectors of children and need to ensure that all children in their care are afforded a safe and secure environment in which to grow and develop, both at school and, to the extent possible, at other locations. Educators, having the opportunity to observe and interact with children over time, are in a unique position to identify children who are in need of help and protection. As such, educators have a professional and ethical obligation to identify children who are in need of help and protection, and to take steps to ensure that the child and family avail themselves of the services needed to remedy any situation that constitutes child abuse or neglect.

The Board mandates that the TIS administration will create school policy and procedures to ensure the above expectations are fulfilled. These child protection procedures will include, but are not limited to: abuse reporting and communication protocols; handling disclosures procedures; school child protection team designation; student, faculty and staff training and education programs; and screening pre-employment practices. This school policy will be reviewed annually, updated as appropriate, and submitted to the School Board for review at the September Board meeting.

The Board mandates that school personnel are vigilant and proactive toward signs of abuse. All employees of TIS, be they permanent, temporary or outside contracted personnel, are mandated reporters and must report suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect whenever the individual staff member has reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered or is at significant risk of suffering abuse or neglect. Reporting and follow up of all suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect will proceed in accordance with procedural guidelines respective to this policy.
