About the School

Tashkent International School (TIS), an International Baccalaureate (IB) World school, is a not-for-profit, independent, co-educational day school governed by a board of directors elected from the parent community. Established in 1994, TIS serves the needs of an expanding international population, including children of expatriate business people and children from the diplomatic community.

Campus Facilities
TIS is housed in a recently-remodeled facility on a 13-acre wooded campus with beautifully landscaped grounds. It is located only 10 minutes from the city center in a quiet, residential community. The school is a fully-enclosed campus with full-time security.

The campus offers large, landscaped and wooded recreation areas with park benches, basketball courts, a soccer field, a pond and gardens. There is also a separate playground for preschool students. In August 2014 the new Arts & Design Building was opened and in August 2015 the new Elementary Building was unveiled, offering new space for the school’s growing elementary population.

The main building and elementary building are handicapped accessible and feature large, climate-controlled classrooms. The main building also houses two spacious libraries, an auditorium, a theatre, four computer labs, and three science labs, all with wireless Internet access.

The Tashkent International Clinic is also housed on the campus with a separate entrance.

Faculty
In the 2017-2018 school year, TIS has 68 full-time teachers, 7 part-time teachers and 21 teaching assistants plus 6 full-time administrators. Of the total, 30 teachers are U.S. citizens, 19 teachers and 21 teaching assistants are host-country nationals, and 32 teachers originate from 14 other countries.

Student body
TIS reached 500 students for the first time in its history in  January 2018 and current enrolment is now 510. We predict continued growth in 2018-19 and urge prospective parents to apply early as spaces may be limited in some grade levels.

At the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, enrolment was 492 (preschool through grade 12), including 61 U.S. citizens, 98 host-country nationals, and 325 third-country nationals. The class of 2018 has 28 seniors.

TIS offers a high school scholarship program to academically talented local students who meet scholastic criteria and demonstrate financial need. Each spring, TIS receives up to 100 applicants competing for up to six full scholarships and up to six half scholarships. Past TIS scholarship students have been accepted into top universities in the United States, Canada and Europe. All of these students have received significant financial aid packages.

Curriculum
