Elementary IT Teachers – Seth Hendrickson and Gera Erwin
Tashkent International School emphasizes the role of technology in the classroom and beyond. The information technology (IT) coordinator and classroom teachers work together to integrate computer skills and programs into learning outcomes and subject curriculum requirements.
The IT labs at TIS are equipped with desktop computers, laser and inkjet printers, scanners, LCD projectors, digital video and still cameras, and a high-speed Internet connection. Computers are networked to a LAN server where students can save work and access programs. The computers also function as stand-alone units with their own software.
The computer lab has a library of software to support curricula in all areas as well as several multi-media programs for reports and presentations. All elementary classrooms have some networked computers for class use.
Teachers at all levels of the elementary, from preschool through grade 4, are using iPads to enhance student learning. In kindergarten, students are using applications for literacy and numeracy. Second graders are using iPad minis for reading groups and 4th graders are accessing iPads for unit research.
Students in grade 5 have a 1:1 iPad program.
Couple with Activboards and educational products from Apple that allow for group learning, the iPads provide learning opportunities that take student inquiry to a higher level.
