High School Musical – May 16, 17, 18, 2012

Basketball star Troy Bolton and smart girl Gabriella Montez break stereotypes and challenge the status quo in Disney’s hit classic High School Musical. This up-beat production takes a fun look at one of life’s most awkward stages – high school – while giving everyone a chance to laugh, smile and sing along. The TIS version of High School Musical will feature seasoned thespians and theatrical newcomers plus music by the Glee Club, the Chamber Ensemble and other TIS musical artists.

Tickets for High School Musical will be available for purchase in the TIS office two weeks prior to the performance.

Theatre Department

The theatre department at TIS supports and promotes the creative work that starts in the classroom by giving students an opportunity to present their creations to a live audience. As classroom creativity comes alive through practical application, students build confidence and discover their artistic voice.

Theatre, like music, also builds a sense of community and belonging, a critical stage in development for secondary students. Opportunities are eagerly pursued which give students ownership of the creative process, such as set design and construction, costume design, music composition and student directing.

Twice a year, the secondary theatre and music departments combine to stage two theatrical productions. Auditions are open to all secondary TIS students. Past productions include “Arabian Nights,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Into the Woods.”

Productions are presented in the school auditorium, the Black Box, or at a local theatrical venue in Tashkent.

The wonderful, mystical land of Arabia comes to life at TIS through the adventurous tales of love, princesses, jealousy, sailors and intrigue in Dominc Cooke’s Arabian Nights. The story unfolds in the palace of a mighty king on the night of his wedding. The king’s new bride, unfortunately, faces certain death the following morning unless she can charm her vindictive husband with her gift of storytelling. What follows is a creative and imaginative journey that leaves the king – and the audience – spellbound.
