The Tashkent International School basketball varsity girls’ and boys’ teams safely returned back from Almaty in mid-March after representing the TIS community at the Central Asian Basketball Classic Tournament. Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and performed well thought the entire four days tournament.
Despite the fact that TIS senior students did not attend the trip due to the clash with their exams, both teams gained 3rd place and bronze medals at the tournament. It was a real test of character of our students as well as their fitness level. The girls played six games and the boys eight games within only four days.
Our young teams played with a real desire and determination. They certainly gained invaluable experience by playing against other International schools from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China. Their ability to stay strong after defeat and support each other on and off the court will be a lifelong lesson. Those basketball battles made us to be even stronger and we proudly should say that TIS basketball traditions are alive.
In addition, Alex and Choong, as well as Zoya and Kristina, were selected to the All Star team of the tournament. We are proud of both our teams’ achievements and look forward to many other sporting events in a future. Thank you for such great and memorable end of the 2015 basketball season at TIS.
