Grade 5 Students Celebrate Graduation to Secondary

On Wednesday morning, June 3, there was a sigh of relief amongst the grade 5 students, parents and teachers – the sun was shining, there was no sign of rain and their graduation ceremony under the trees at Tashkent International School was able to take place!  With less than a week to go before leaving the elementary school, our 34 grade 5 students proudly received their completion of PYP certificates and a tubeteika (Uzbek hat).

As has become a TIS tradition, the younger students in our school visited us from the preschool and sang to the grade 5 students, wishing them well on their journey. The grade 5 students also entertained us with their ‘graduation song,’ which was composed by ‘Rock 5!’ the grade 5 band.  The audience, including the entire elementary school, grade 6, parents and secondary siblings, was clearly impressed by their creativity.

Mira and Jaden represented their grade level with speeches echoing the sentiments of their classmates and the ceremony concluded with surprise gifts for the teachers and students.  Many thanks to the parents for all their hard work in decorating the area under the trees, and making the ceremony truly festive, and for providing a delicious brunch.

Once the ceremony and brunch were over the students had the opportunity to share their drama performance, which was sadly cancelled last week due to the rain. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the students and made them feel special in their last days in TIS elementary school.
