Service Learning is one of the focuses this year in the Middle Years Programme and throughout all grade levels at Tashkent International School. The grade 7 students have taken this focus seriously and are doing creative work in support of the Tashkent Animal Shelter.
Recently the students began an awareness campaign about dogs and cats who need neuter jackets to be worn after surgery so the animals don’t irritate or remove their sutures. To do this, the students created posters and displayed them around campus to raise awareness about the needs these animals have. From there they organized several fund raising events, including a movie night and bake sale.
The most important aspect of the service learning project was collecting old t-shirts from within the TIS community and then staging a “Sewing Bee” where the grade 7 students recycled the shirts into post-surgery jackets for the animals.
The students are also working on a website and Facebook page to highlight the animal shelter and the work they are doing to support it.
Congratulations Grade 7 students for your great efforts on this project!
