The elementary school at Tashkent International School will celebrate reading in April with a variety of fun activities in and out of the classroom (and library!). The highlight of the month will be the Celebrate: Reading! night on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the elementary library. All families are invited to come and experience this special evening of games, arts and crafts, and fun, all with a focus on reading.

Story Time in Different Languages – April 9, 16, 23, 30 – 3:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library
Parent volunteers will read to students in their home languages. Everyone is welcome to participate. If you are a parent and would like to sign up to read in your language, please contact Sayyora Tairova, elementary librarian.
Books Open Doors – April 15 – 26
Elementary classes will vote for their “Best Book of 2012-2013” and share it with the TIS community by creating a large book cover to go the classroom door. Parents are invited to take a tour and enjoy all the creative doors!
Bookmark Design Contest – April 15 – 26
Students will have a chance to create their own bookmarks and submit them in the contest. Judges will select the winners and the library will publish winning bookmarks and make them available to the public.
“I’ve Read to the Principal!” – April 15 – 26
Interested students can visit the Principal Kristen DiMatteo’s office to read their favorite story to her or read excerpts from their favorite book. Once a student reads to the principal, he/she can sign a poster that confirms “I’ve Read to the Principal!”
Book Swap sponsored by Make a Difference – April 27
Books will be collected the weeks of April 15 to April 26 and will be swapped/sold at Arts in the Park (spring bazaar) on Saturday, April 27.
Favorite Character Hat Parade/Character Dress-Up Day – May 17
Students design and create hats to represent their favorite characters and then wear them on May 17. Students can also dress up as their favorite book character.
